About Neway Cutters

Neway offers a wide variety of valve seat cutters to suite all applications. If we don't already have what you need on the shelf, we can run a custom cutter at the required diameter and angle. We have made cutters to machine valve seats on model airplanes (seat diameter of 3/8", yes, three eighths of one inch seat diameter) and we make cutters that will machine a bit larger than six inches. Chances are your work falls somewhere in between.

Neway valve seat cutters are not application specific. That is, the cutter does not care if it's a high performance automotive engine, a vintage motorcycle, or an aircraft head. If the cutter fits, and it's the correct angle, it's the right cutter. Our unique carbide blades will machine any valve seat material, from the toughest to the softest.

Neway cutters feature adjustable carbide blades. While the angle is fixed in the tool, the blades adjust inward and outward so that each cutter has its own respective operating range. The operating range is not the same as the blade adjustment range. Blade adjustment range tells us how far out and how far in the blades can reach for a given cutter, but there is more to finding the right cutter size than simply looking at the reach of the blades (more below).

Finding the Right Cutter – Short and Sweet

SIZE Use the valve size (the valve head diameter) to help you find the best cutter diameter. The cutter body diameter (the yellow part) should be about the same size as the valve. In general, the cutter body can be 1/8" bigger than the valve, or 1/4" smaller than the valve.
ANGLES Find the angles you need. To do a proper valve job you will need three angles : the contact surface and two "narrowing angles" immediately above and below the contact surface. Almost all valves are 45 degrees. If you don't have the OEM specifications for the narrowing angles, we recommend the standard 30° - 45° - 60° profile.
PILOTS Make sure to get pilots that are compatible with the cutters you have selected (small series pilots for use with small series cutters, etc.).
CASE, WRENCH, ACCESSORIES Pick the finishing touches. A proper Neway kit should have cutters, pilots, case, wrench, and accessories.
